It’s been a few weeks now since Facebook announced their $19 billion dollar acquisition of WhatsApp, and shortly thereafter, WhatsApp announced the planned addition of voice calling services to the app by spring of 2014. This could have dramatic effects on your current mobile-phone providers and what they are currently offering – free messaging services, like WhatsApp, have already dramatically reduced SMS revenues (by $33 billion!) of the big wireless carriers. Adding additional, low-cost competition for voice calling might just be the icing on the cake, especially when you take into account the massive numbers of users that a combo of Facebook and WhatsApp bring to the table.
Are you still baffled about the price-tag on this acquisition? We’ve done some research and have come up with some really interesting stats that will make this union between Facebook and WhatsApp make a lot more sense.
