What you’ll learn about building a community on Clubhouse:

  • Clubhouse is the newest iteration of what a social media platform can look like
  • We have three tips for you to build a community on this platform:
    1. Get comfortable with Clubhouse and how it works
    2. Extend your network
    3. Build your voice and your authority

The digital marketing landscape is always changing. In the blink of an eye, a new trend or app will emerge and transform the way we network, connect, or market our brands. This year the app that’s poised for take-off is Clubhouse — and we’re excited to see how people make the most of this new platform. In this video, we’ve shared a rundown of what Clubhouse is and how you can use it to build your brand and your network.

Have a look, or read our summary post below.

What Is Clubhouse?

Currently, Clubhouse is an invite-only social media app where you can speak to and network with a variety of people. The best way to describe it is as an audio version of your favorite subreddit or the live podcast version of a keynote speaker series.

Here’s how it works: you get an invite from a friend, set up a profile, and start exploring different ‘rooms’. Each room has a specific topic — entrepreneurship, digital marketing, basketball, or woodworking, for instance. Once you’re in a room, you essentially get to hear professionals talk about any point of interest within that space. The room’s creator is the host and they are able to tap any of their friends to chime in or open up the mic to anyone who ‘raises their hand’.

Got it? Great. Here’s how you could use it.

1. Get Acquainted and Comfortable with the App

If you’re not the type to raise your hand at a conference or during a keynote, here is a great opportunity for you to work on getting out of your comfort zone. On Clubhouse, you’re pretty much anonymous until you want to be active. Because it’s audio-only, you likely won’t feel as vulnerable as you would stepping up to a mic in a big conference room. You can chime in when you’re ready and get comfortable at your own pace. Take some time to feel the app out and work your way into participating.

2. Extend Your Network

The app is an incredible way to grow your network and make meaningful connections with people who might take your career or your business to the next level. You never know who might be in one of those rooms. You could find your next client, your next investor, or your next business partner. Get into the right chats, raise your hand, and get a bit vulnerable — it could make all the difference

3. Build Your Authority

You’re already creating content that is building your authoritative voice around your business, product, and services — be it your blog, video marketing, or social media posts. Clubhouse can be another tool in the bag.

You can use the app to reach new audiences, cross-promote with other industry members and influencers, provide more value, and reinforce what you already know about the business. You can chat and brainstorm about:

  • Solving customer pain points
  • How to price product or service
  • How to level up and set better goals
  • New trends in your industry
  • How people are adjusting to economic uncertainty

Clubhouse won’t be the place to sell your products or your services. Once you’re accustomed to the app and have experienced a few bad actors you’ll quickly realize how distasteful it can feel.

Being honest about your experience and offering up free information — just like you do in your blogging and video content — will go a long way towards building a community on Clubhouse that feels connected to you and your services, resonates with your principles, and wants to hear more from you.

We’ll see you in content marketing rooms!
