She comes this month from her hometown in beautiful Vancouver, BC, and will be discussing Google Analytics and why you should be using it on your website.  Keep watching to find out all the details in this edition of the Digital Marketing Postcard.

Rough Video Translation:

What Is Google Analytics and Why Do I Need It For My Website?

Today’s video topic came from subscriber Kate of Vital Logistics.  She wanted to understand the importance of having Google Analytics setup for her website, and the key things to keep in mind while using it.

What Is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free tracking tool from Google that provides you with many types of statistics to see how your website is performing; it helps you obtain data from the traffic that you’re receiving, so that you can see how your site is doing and continue to improve it, including information such as who your visitors are, where they’re coming from and how they are using your website.

Google Analytics DashboardEven if you don’t have the time to look at this information at first, it’s important to set up Analytics as soon as your site launches, so that you can track data right from the beginning. Then in the future, whenever someone will be paying attention to these stats, they will at least have some historical information to compare against.

How will Google Analytics Benefit My Business?

Understand and Build Your Audience:  As mentioned, Google Analytics will teach you how to continue building your business by learning about your audience: it will help you analyze all of your site traffic so you can find out who is visiting your site, where they are coming from, and what they are clicking on.

Behavior Flow

Reach Target Outcomes:  Once you can better understand who your audience is, you can start testing campaigns, keywords, landing pages, average time spent on your site and a multitude of other metrics to find out what keeps a visitor on your website…and more importantly, what makes them leave.  You can use the answers to these questions to better enhance your website experience and lead you to the next most important metric: goals & conversions.

Act on Insights:
You can set up goals in your Google Analytics account that will track specific actions your visitors take.  You can even assign values to each goal or conversion that is logged, so that you can calculate exactly how much each action is worth to your business.  This is invaluable information for you to continue building and improving your website and customer experience.

Goal Types
