So you’ve finally succumbed to the (new) age adage; ‘Content is King’. You realize to stand out from your competitors you have to inform and educate in your own voice, and you have to find your audience where it is most convenient for the masses – social media. On top of that, to stay relevant and easy to find from an SEO perspective, you need fresh content on your webpage. That’s it really, just continuous posts across your website, Instagram, LinkedIn, Podcast, TikTok, and maybe even Facebook still (sorry, Mark).
I know, it seems like a lot, but I promise it’s nothing to take your mask off in a Costco about. With a quick refresher on ‘The Content Pyramid,’ you’ll see that one piece of long-form pillar content can easily provide several posts across multiple channels. What’s even sweeter? Every post has a unified theme and points to your pillar content, which is conveniently located on your website with numerous links to more content, CTA’s and product pages.
So where do you begin? Let’s break down the pyramid!
1. Long-Form Video
At the top is a long-form video regarding your pillar content – one big overarching theme or subject you’re an expert in that you’ve created a video for, say for example content marketing. I know, video is the hardest to get right and requires the most work, but as we’ll see shortly one 10 minute video can yield SO much content across all platforms. Not only that, if your video content starts resonating with your audience and you’re publishing it on YouTube, it might also become a lucrative revenue stream for your business.
2. Podcast
Second, in the pyramid is the extraction of the audio file to utilize as a podcast. With the emergence of easy to use tools like Audacity, Garageband, and hosting sites such as BuzzSprout, it’s never been easier to post and promote a podcast – creating another channel for your audience to hear from you. If you need some inspiration, here’s a shortlist of our favorite podcasts centered around marketing and industry news.
3. Blog Posts
Did you know that 1 minute of video is about 1 page of written content? This suggests that if within a ten-minute video you cover 5 specific topics within your pillar content (~2 minutes each segment) you’ll have 5 blog posts to slot in your social media calendar. How do you do it? Simply transcribe each segment into a blog post, edit for readability, and hyperlink to a specific clip from that same long-form video you started with. From here we have at least 7 pieces of content from one, and it quickly starts to snowball…
4. Short-form Video Clips for Socials
Indeed, this where the pyramid really starts multiplying the work you’ve invested in that initial video. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and even LinkedIn provide easily digestible snippets of long form content to your audience. This is fantastic news for content creators like you who have ten minutes of video content to work with. You could split up that long-form content into 2-minute video clips for LinkedIn with accompanying posts, clips for Instagram or IGTV, and repost for Facebook and TikTok even. If you want you can split that same ten-minute post even smaller – say one minute or even 30-second posts. If you do this you can generate up to 20 posts across all your socials that, if optimized correctly, can drive traffic to your website, your YouTube channel – or both!! That’s up to 27 pieces of content from one 10 minute video – does it seem like all the work to create great video content is paying off yet?
5. Static Posts Across Socials
Chances are before you posted you did some thorough research, you scoured articles, gathered information and if you did that research in the last few years, you likely came across some pretty helpful infographics to help you visualize the information. Well, guess what? Those infographics (if repurposed) can be incredible static posts for your social media feeds with captions that describe the content and direct your audience to the long-form video or your website’s blog. If you don’t have infographics you can simply write bullet points of the main takeaways from each segment. Canva is a great tool to help you create visual appeal. Depending on how savvy you get here you could easily extract another 10-20 static posts across your socials.
And just like that, one 10 minute video can be repurposed all the way down the content marketing pyramid, hitting every channel your audience might find you on along the way. As always we hope this has helped provided you with some value as you set out on your content marketing journey. If you liked this post you can find more from us here.
