…But how do you know what that “something” is?
Luckily, research and testing have provided us with a “naughty or nice” list of the common traits of highly successful landing pages. And no, it doesn’t involve sitting on Santa’s knee and hoping for a miracle! Here are some examples:
1. Attract Attention: with all of today’s distractions, you have a limited amount of time to attract (and keep) your visitors’ attention. How are you grabbing your visitors’ eye? What unique value proposition are you offering them in return for spending time on your site?
2. Clear, Concise Communication: explain exactly what your product, service or website is offering in clear and concise way so your visitor knows exactly what they are getting, right off the bat. If they can’t understand what you are offering right away, they will be pressing that back button within seconds.
3. Call to Action: one of the key features of a landing page, a Call to Action (or “CTA”) will get your visitor to perform a desired action – this could be filling out a form with their contact details, registering for a newsletter, or requesting a demo – instantly turning that visit into a lead.
4. Give Something: If you’re going to be asking your visitors to give you their contact details or company information, it’s only fair to return the favor. To further encourage your visitors to click that CTA, offer them something in return: for example, if they sign up for your product newsletter, give them 10% off their next purchase. If they’re submitting their contact details, send them a free eBook download.
5. Look Good While Doing It: further to #1, if a visitor knows nothing about your company, they will judge you on their first visit to your site. The easiest way to build credibility is with a clean, professional design. If you’re going to be converting visits into sales, you have to look good while doing it!
These are just a few examples of what you can implement right away to push your landing pages towards higher conversions…and leave your holiday wishlist open for other things (like shoes, or exotic vacations).
